Creepy Crawlies and Other Creatures of the Night

Morrill Memorial Library is excited to offer a live animal hybrid program called Creepy Crawlies and Other Creatures of the Night on October 17 at 7PM in the Simoni Room.

Joy Marzolf is back by popular demand and this time she is bringing in some live creepy crawlies with her! At some times of the year, like Halloween, we often think about many creepy creatures in the animal world, including many that are active at night. How do you hiss without using your mouth? Eat by using a built-in straw? From animals that look creepy like spiders and bats, to those that just sound creepy, many of these creatures include important predators that help us unseen under the cover of darkness. Learn about some of the amazing talents of some of our creepy animal friends and what you can do to help them help us! This program will be a combination of presentation followed by interaction with some live creepy crawlies.

About the presenter:
Joy has loved animals from the time she was a child growing up in New England and she would always take advantage of any outdoor time to explore nature. In addition to a BA in Biology, she has been doing a variety of animal-related education programs in her professional life for over 20 years. One of her favorite things to do is break people’s misconceptions about many animals that people fear, such as predators including sharks, reptiles and spiders. Until June of 2020, Joy was a Naturalist and Educator at Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary for almost 14 years. There she taught numerous programs, including those with live animals, for a wide range of ages on topics including butterflies and dragonflies, reptiles and amphibians, mammals, animal tracking and photography.
