Dr. Hylander presents "The 19th Amendment"

Wednesday, December 92:00—3:15 PMVirtualMorrill Memorial Library33 Walpole St., Norwood, MA, 02062

Join historian Dr. Gary Hylander via Zoom for another afternoon presentation on Wednesday, December 9 at 2:00 pm: “The Nineteenth Amendment.” This year marks the 100th anniversary of granting women the right to vote. Party bosses long opposed the idea of women’s suffrage, which was associated with dangerous political reform and unwelcome social change. Besides, politics was considered the work of men. Suffragists endured years of public ridicule and were often imprisoned. By the turn of the century, however, with more women in the workforce and in light of their vital contributions during World War I, women were finally granted the right to vote in 1920.
