Thursday, September 102:00—3:00 PMVirtualMorrill Memorial Library33 Walpole St., Norwood, MA, 02062

This year marks the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II, the most cataclysmic event of the 20th century. As a follow-up to his lecture on Roosevelt and the Yalta Conference (available on Norwood Library’s YouTube channel), Dr. Gary Hylander will present “The Potsdam Conference: July 1945” via Zoom on Thursday, September 10 at 2:00 pm.

Potsdam was the last summit meeting of the Big Three—the Soviet Union, the United Kingdom, and the United States, represented by Stalin, Churchill, and Truman. They gathered to decide what to do about Germany, whose armed forces had recently surrendered unconditionally to the Allies. Four major issues were on the table at Potsdam: the future of Eastern Europe, the occupation and dismantling of Germany, Russia’s role in defeating Japan, and wartime trials.
