In honor of Stuart Plumer, the Morrill Memorial Library presents the Stuart Plumer Author Series. Join us for an in-person author talk with local author Mitchell Zuckoff on Thursday, May 18 at 7:00pm in the Simoni Room of the Library.

A number-one New York Times-bestselling author, Mitchell Zuckoff will discuss his latest book, The Secret Gate: A True Story of Courage and Sacrifice During the Collapse of Afghanistan. The book recounts the incredible true story of a breathtaking rescue in the frenzied final hours of the U.S. evacuation of Afghanistan—and how a brave Afghan mother and a compassionate American officer engineered a daring escape.

About the author: Mitchell Zuckoff is the Sumner Redstone Professor of Narrative Studies at Boston University and the author of nine nonfiction books. His most recent book is The Secret Gate: A True Story of Courage and Sacrifice During the Collapse of Afghanistan. His previous book was Fall and Rise: The Story of 9/11, a New York Times bestseller hailed as the first comprehensive narrative nonfiction account of the day. Prior to that, he wrote 13 Hours: The Inside Account of What Really Happened in Benghazi, a number-one New York Times bestseller that was the basis of the movie 13 Hours. His book Lost in Shangri-La received the Winship/PEN Award for Nonfiction. Zuckoff has written for The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The New York Times, and numerous other publications. As a member of The Boston Globe Spotlight Team, Zuckoff was a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. His other honors include the American Society of Newspaper Editors' Distinguished Writing Award and the Livingston Award for International Reporting. He lives with his family outside Boston.
