Local Food, Climate Chaos, & You

Morrill Memorial Library welcomes back Kerry Kokkinogenis, Local Food Program Manager for the Sustainable Business Network of Massachusetts, to present "Local Food, Climate Chaos, and You" on Tuesday, February 25 starting at 7:00pm in the Simoni Room.
How can you impact climate chaos? Not all farming is created equal--especially in its impact on the local environment. Local farmers, fishers, and the food systems that support them are repairing much of the damage caused by industrial farming, industry, and other land use. In this talk, we will focus on hope and the many ways you can have a positive impact. We'll talk about how you can support the local food system through purchasing choices, conversations, and advocacy with local, state, and federal legislators. If you are feeling like things are out of control, this is a chance to find ways to make a difference.
About our presenter: Since graduating with a M.A. in Health Communication in 2008, Kerry Kokkinogenis has sought to address health disparities in a variety of ways, studying and addressing the bigger-picture factors that impact health and wellness, including food, strong local communities, and economic opportunities. In 2016, Kerry opened a local-focused, brick-and-mortar food store selling only food grown or produced in the Northeast Region, and more recently, pivoted to a farm-to-home delivery model. Since joining the SBN team in April 2023, Kerry has enjoyed employing the skills and experiences gained in those varied endeavors to support local food systems.
About SBN: The Sustainable Business Network's Boston Local Food Program has been dedicated to nurturing the growth of New England's agricultural and food industry, ensuring that the benefits of local, healthy food are accessible to everyone in our diverse community. Our mission is to support the growth of local food producers, farmers, and entrepreneurs while ensuring equal access to nutritious food for communities of all backgrounds.
