Warli Art Workshop with Sunanda Sahay [Adult Workshop]

On Thursday, November 3 at 6:30pm the Morrill Memorial Library’s first Artist-in-Residence, Sunanda Sahay, will present a unique art program in the Simoni Room. This workshop will explore the traditional techniques and themes of Warli art, a style of folk painting originating from western India near Mumbai. Participants will have the opportunity to both learn about the history of this distinctive art form and create their own take on Warli paintings using paint on paper. Supplies will be provided by the presenter. Registration is required; limit of 25 participants. Please note that this workshop is intended for adults.

About the artist: Sunanda Sahay trained with local artists from Mithila, her native region in northern India, to learn the traditional art of Madhubani folk painting and has been painting for over 10 years. After moving to the United States, she sought ways to continue painting and learn new art forms while sharing her love for art with others in Massachusetts. Sunanda has exhibited her work at the Peabody Essex Museum, MFA, the National Heritage Museum, Boston Children's’ Museum, and the Massachusetts College of Art. She has also taught interactive workshops at libraries and public schools across Massachusetts. She is the founder of the Essence of India cultural festival in Acton, MA and has twice received the prestigious apprenticeship award from the MCC to train her own students.
