Scott, Amundsen, and Shackleton: The Race to the South Pole
Monday, March 47:00—8:30 PMSimoni RoomMorrill Memorial Library33 Walpole St., Norwood, MA, 02062
Join historian Bob Begin at the Morrill Memorial Library on Monday, March 4 at 7 p.m. for his illustrated presentation, “Scott, Amundsen, and Shackleton: the Race to the Pole.” In 1900, Antarctica represented the last unexplored, unclaimed region of the world. Eager to expand her empire, Great Britain sought to acquire this hostile region, as did other countries. These journeys pitted man against some of the harshest elements on earth. Mr. Begin will discuss what drove these intrepid explorers to risk life and limb, be it the desire for fame and glory, riches, or an opportunity to serve king and country.
