The Morrill Memorial Library and Progress Norwood are pleased to offer a powerful workshop from Wee the People. Their workshop, “The ABCs of Racism: Starting and Sustaining Anti-Racist Conversation with Kids,” will be held virtually via Zoom on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00-11:00 am. Wee The People is a Boston-based social justice project for kids, parents, and educators exploring activism, equity, and resistance through interactive workshops.

This program is intended for adults only.

Mama, why is that lady brown? Why did the police kill Mr. Phil? Why can't Peter Pan be Black?

Kids notice a lot about the world – including racial difference and racial inequity. They sense that these things matter, and they have questions many of the adults in their lives are not prepared to answer. This interactive workshop will explore the barriers that prevent adults from talking about race and racism with kids, examine the social science of race awareness in children, and identify strategies to start and sustain antiracist conversations and action with children at home and in learning settings.

Space for this interactive workshop is very limited and registration is required. Please sign up by filling out the form below. If you have to cancel for any reason, please call the Reference Desk so we can make sure your spot gets filled from the wait list: 781-463-0138.

This program is part of Norwood’s Civic Hub, a year-long series of LSTA grant programs brought to you with federal funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
